Above Ground Tanks – Keep Your Effluent Well Mixed

Pumps alone are not enough, you need to stir your above ground tank to get the best our of your effluent.
If you’ve got or are getting an above ground tank for effluent storage, you’ll require a good slurry stirrer. Above ground effluent tanks need a good stirrer to keep the effluent well mixed.

Pumps alone are insufficient for dealing with effluent – particularly floating solids. If the effluent is left, or not mixed well enough, solids accumulate at the bottom of the form a crust on top where weeds can grow, making it difficult to harvest and grow grass…basically it can turn into a mess. Other issues include:

  • Solids that are not mixed in can cause blockages in pumps.
  • Settled solids unable to be pumped out reduce the capacity of your storage, potentially affecting council storage requirements.
  • Solids left sitting in the tank will decrease in nutrient value.
  • Who wants to have to clean out a tank?

What kind of stirrer is best for an above ground tank?

We’d recommend an electric stirrer where possible. They are both cost and time efficient and can often be set on an automatic timer for even more efficiency.

Shore mounted horizontal stirrers are the preferred option as the angle is important for drawing in solids from around the pond.

Where previously electric stirrers needed to be mounted on a pedestal to reach over the wall of an above ground tank, Nevada has developed a the TankStir 710 that allows the stirrer to be operated from the ground while reaching over the wall of the effluent tank. This is a much safer and convenient option, while still providing powerful performance.

If electricity is not available, many farmers are choosing hydraulically driven stirrers that can mount onto front end loader tractors or telehandlers. A quick attach adapter easily converts a Nevada PTO stirrer into hydraulic drive allowing you to reach much further than you could before.

Nevada’s hydraulic drive stirrer option provides you with all the benefits of our best-selling PTO stirrers with the added advantage of front-end loader mounted hydraulic drive.

  • Front end mount allows you to get closer to the tank/pond for better reach.
  • Easy angle and depth adjustment.
  • Quick and easy to attach to most front-end loaders or telehandlers.
  • Cost effective.
  • Frames built to suit most loader hitches.
