Effluent storage: Importance of safety on the farm

Effluent ponds can be one of the most overlooked hazards on a dairy farm. At Nevada, we’ve seen firsthand how easily things can go wrong – which is why we developed the PondBoom™. It keeps your team safe on the shore and makes servicing your pump faster and safer than ever.
With many deaths every year we understand that safety can no longer be taken lightly. Or as farm owners, workers or managers of the farm think we may not be held personally liable should an accident take place.

Let’s not be casual as to safety around the farm

We must take all practicable steps to prevent staff, contractors or even visitors to the farm from having a tragedy. Due to the possible severe consequences and ever increasing importance it is critical that farmers, regardless of their role, take an honest assessment as to ‘what’ could go wrong and on the farm and ‘where’ could it happen.

At Nevada, we visit a lot of dairy farms throughout Australia and NZ and have identified that dairy effluent storage ponds/tanks and such like are a potential hazard. There have been some tragic cases relating to the use of pump pontoons and it was in this area that Nevada invested hours of research into how these could be made safer so nothing like this ever happens again.
