PondBugs™ Are A Win For Jason!

Jason Christensen makes running an environmentally sustainable, and profitable farming operation look easy. He’s a farmer that strives for excellence. Jason returned to work on the family farm in 2008, went into partnership in 2009, and took over the full running of the farm in 2021. Throughout that time Fernhill Farms has gone from strength to strength – as can be seen from their various awards. It’s not surprising Jason is an advocate for using effluent for natural fertilisation, and when it comes to keeping his effluent pond healthy, it’s PondBugs™ all the way!

Located in Mount Bruce, just north of Masterton, Fernhill farms operates across 527ha with 154ha dedicated to milking. Effluent from the 44-bale rotary cow shed flows down to the effluent pond to store before spreading. The issue Jason was finding was crust formation…

  • ‘The pond was crusting between stirs to the point you could almost walk on it.’

Jason had tried a couple of different natural bacteria treatments, which had been ok, but not quite the solution he’d been hoping for.

  • ‘I’d previously used 2 other brands that had been doing the job, but not amazingly.’

Having met Lloyd (Nevada) at a Fieldays event, they had kept in contact, and when Jason told Lloyd of the crusting issue Lloyd suggested he try PondBugs.

PondBugs™ Are A Win For Jason!
  • ‘Within 2-3 months there was a huge difference, and after 12 months the pond was all but clear.’

Jason continues to use PondBugs as an environmentally friendly, natural solution for keeping his effluent pond healthy and crust free…

  • ‘I’ve hardly seen any crust build up since using Nevada PondBugs. I use it every Saturday!’
